Hospice Margins

On May 15, 2019, Barb Hansen of the Oregon and Washington state hospice organizations asked if I could break out MedPAC’s 2019 report of national hospice margins by state. This was an interesting question that I thought others might also be interested in. I detailed my methods and results for 2016-2017 estimated hospice margins by state (report here). In 2017, the highest and lowest hospice margin states were:
1. Alaska (33.0%)
2. New Hampshire (32.2%)
3. Maine (27.8%)
....
49. North Dakota (-1.5%)
50. District of Columbia (-16.9%)
51. Wyoming (-25.0%)
While this raises questions about diversity in rural states, there is always the question of cost report accurracy. Nevertheless, interesting and thought-provoking results.
