Hawaii Hospices

In the U.S., hospice care was started by volunteers in the 1970s. Even now, hospices use volunteers in many ways. A volunteer might visit a patient in the home to provide company, run errands, babysit young children, or do other tasks to help the patient and family. Additionally, administrative volunteers help hospices with office work, fundraising, and/or community programs.
